Walking along the Rio Grande in New Mexico is one of the great pleasures in life. This landscape painting is a sunrise scence from high along the butte or mesa looking down on the bosque, the woods. Water is life, and aside from the strip of cottonwood trees in a ribbon along the river, the landscape turns back into the harsh high desert flora.
The Sandia Mountains are epic both in their size and their coloration. The word Sandia actually means watermelon in Spanish and it refers to the color that the mountains glow when the sun shines on their mineral deposits from the west. This silk piece features the view from above looking down onto the Rio Grande at sunrise. Gold tones, sage green, and warm gold are typical of the high desert palette. There is sagebrush, cactus and reed grass all along the high mesa looking down into the canyon below where the wide and life giving Rio Grande flows.
This painting is a backlit LED silk piece, bright enough to light an entire room, which can be dimmed enough to become a nighlight.
